The Nature of God
Christians think God is:
Omnipotent = all powerful
Omniscient = all knowing
Omnibenevolent = all loving
Omnipresent= everywhere
Transcendent= out of this world
I agree with these descriptions because I am a Christian. I know that the characteristics can sometimes be hard to believe but i simply have faith that the things are true because the Bible says so.
The Trinity:
God the Son:
born of the virgin Mary
rose on the third day
God on earth
performed miracles
God the Holy Spirit:
gave Mary Jesus
the invisible power of God on earth everywhere
God the Father:
sustains and rules over everything
creator of the universe
judges us
The Apostles' Creed:
I believe that the fourth statement of the apostles' creed is the most important. It says: "On the third day He arose again from the dead." I think it is the most important because that is the reason Christians have hope today of going to heaven and not being doomed to hell. It is because Jesus conquered death and paid the ultimate price for everyone's sin. It is the reason that Christians are Christians.
Creation in Genesis
The first day: God told the light to shine
The second day: God separated the waters to make sky
The third day: God made the land and trees and plants
The fourth day: God made the sun to shine at day and the moon at night
The fifth day: God made all the animals of the earth
The sixth day: God created man out of dust and woman out of his rib in his own image
The Sabbath: God rested and did not work on this day
The Fall of Man:
God gave man dominion - they were in charge of everything
Man was given the gift of freewill and so they could make their own decisions
There was one tree that was forbidden because it gave knowledge of good and evil
However Adam and Eve could eat from any of the other trees
Satan took the form of a snake and tricked Eve into eating from the tree
Eve convinced Adam to eat the fruit as well
When Adam and Eve sinned against God they knew they were naked and felt shame
When the fall happened Adam and Eve were thrown out of the garden of Eden and the relationship between God and Man was broken
All three persons of the Trinity were present during the creation of the world.
Humanity in Genesis
IMAGO DEI (MADE IN THE IMAGE OF GOD) -- THIS IS THE IDEA THAT HUMANS ARE MADE IN THE IMAGE OF GOD. GOD HAS GIVEN MAN FREEWILL, JUST LIKE HE HAS. -- MAN WERE GIVEN AUTHORITY. -- THIS INFLUENCES CHRISTIAN BELIEFS ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS AND THEIR PURPOSE
FREEWILL -- HUMANS CAN DECIDE WHAT TO DO AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT. THEY CAN SHAPE THEIR OWN LIVES. FREEWILL IS A GIFT. -- MAN ARE MASTERS AND NOT SERVANTS OF CREATION. ADAM AND EVE CHOSE TO EAT THE FORBIDDEN FRUIT. -- HUMANS MUST CHOOSE WEATHER TO DO GOOD OR EVIL
HUMAN LIFE IS SACRED -- SPECIAL PLACE IN CREATION. HUMANS HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE, NO OTHER LIFE HAS THAT. HUMAN LIFE IS TO BE RESPECTED AND PROTECTED. -- GOD SHOWED HUMANS SPECIAL CARE BY GIVING THEM PLANTS, FRUIT AND ANIMALS FOR THEIR NEEDS
