Aerobic Exercise

The formula for Aerobic Exercise is Glucose + Oxygen ---> Energy + Carbon Dioxide + Water

Aerobic Exercise is...

- With Oxygen. When the exercise is not too fast and is steady , the heart can supply all the oxygen that the working muscles need.

The demand for oxygen in the muscles is met by the supply from the heart.

For example: Long distance running, swimming or walking.

Anaerobic Exercise

The formula for anaerobic exercise is Glucose ---> Energy + Lactic Acid

This is exercise without oxygen and is used in short durations at high intensity.

The build-up of lactic acid in muscles causes pain and fatigue. The muscles cannot work efficiently. Exercise will have to slow down or stop if too strenuous- No more than 60 seconds.

E.G Sprinting, shot put and triple jump.

EXCESS POST-EXERCISE OXYGEN CONSUMPTION

The amount of oxygen needed to recover after anaerobic exercise

The increased breathing rate and depth of breathing supplies the body with oxygen, which is used to remove lactic acid.
