VERTICAL MOTION

Free Fall

Friction effects due to air resistance negligible

Every object regardless of mass experiences uniform downwards acceleration of 9.8 m/s2.

Vertical Motion

When a body is thrown upwards (assuming air resistance is negligible)...

Only force acting is constant downwards force due to gravity. This becomes unbalanced force causing constant downward acceleration from moment of release.

Acceleration causes object to slow down on way up, stop and change direction at top and speed up on way down.

At highest point vertical velocity is zero

Time taken to reach highest point is same as time taken to return to height of release.

When it reaches height of release, vertical displacement is zero and final velocity is same size as initial, but opposite direction.
