Typical use in a business- these are used to connect different networks together and to the internet.

Wireless NIC

Purpose- connecting to computer to a network using radio waves.

Typical use in a business- conneting a laptop or netbook to a company network or to the internet using Wi-Fi.

Switch

Purpose- allows many computers or devices to connect to a network.

Typical use in a business- these are used in larger netwwork to connect devices.

Modem

Purpose- converts analogue signals to and from digital signals so that ordinary telephone lines can be used to connect to the internet.

Typical use in a business- these connect to the internet by a "dial up" connection using ordinary telephone lines.

Wireless access point (WAP)

Purpose- to connect devices to a network using wireless/ Wi-Fi.

Typical use in a business- a WAP is used to allow devices to use Wi-Fi to connect into an existing network.
