Structured Query Language

• SQL is the programming language we use to create databases.
• An SQL database will store data in tables which are made up of records and fields
• Each field will be a certain data type (e.g. Character, Real, Integer, Boolean, Integer and String).

Data types

• Different data types have limitations:
• integers and real numbers cannot be concatenated, ie joined together.
• numbers held in strings cannot be subject to mathematical operations.
• 
• Caption: Each variable has a data type. The data type determines what type of value the variable will hold.
