Physics GCSE - states cards

abikj18 English 9 cards

Cards in this deck (9)

  1. 1SolidParticles in this state can only vibrate about a fixed point. The forces between the particles are very strong.
  2. 2LiquidParticles in this state have some energy. The particles are only free to move past each other. The forces are weaker than in a solid.
  3. 3GasThe particles in this state have lots of energy and little force to hold the particles together.
  4. 4EvaporationDuring this change of state the particles in a liquid is given enough thermal energy to move free of the other particles.
  5. 5CondensationThis change of state means particles lose energy and can now only move past each other. The forces between the atoms become stronger.
  6. 6FreezingThis change of state removes energy from particles. The particles are then unable to move and can only vibrate around a fixed point.
  7. 7MeltingThis change of state gives particles in a solid enough energy to allow them to move past one another.
  8. 8ConductorThis material allows heat and electricity to pass through easily. Metals are good at this because they have free electrons.
  9. 9InsulatorA material that is a poor transmitter of heat and electricity. Plastics and gases are good examples of this.
