- 1What is a variable?Something in an equation that can change its value (eg y or n etc)
- 2What is a coefficient?The number (and its sign) before a variable. (eg in 4y, the coefficient is +4)
- 3What is a constant?A number that stays the same (eg in 4y+7, 7 is the constant)
- 4What is a term?A number or variable or a combination of the two (with their signs) in an expression (eg +4y or +7)
- 5What is an expression?A collection of terms (doesn't have an equals sign)
- 6What is an equation?At least two expressions, with an equals sign.
- 7What is a substitution?When you substitute a number for a letter in the alphabet.
