About alphabets and scripts quizzes

Explore Alphabets and Scripts quizzes

These quizzes offer different ways to practise recognising and using scripts. Japanese Hiragana Test focuses on hiragana, while the katakana quiz asks for readings of characters. Korean Alphabet Quiz and Egyptian Arabic Alphabet add other scripts to explore.

For a different kind of practice, the hieroglyphic sign quiz asks about ideograms, determinatives and phonograms. Alphabetizing Uniliterals asks you to arrange signs in alphabetical order. The Afrikaans spelling quizzes ask for words such as koei and kraai.

Choose a starting point

Start with the hiragana character-reading quiz if you want to check individual readings. For word-level practice, try Words You May Already Use (Quiz), which asks how many hiragana letters are needed to write a word.

Work through a quiz, then revisit the characters or words you found difficult. If you want to review them before another attempt, switch to flashcards on the unit page. Choose a script and give its quiz a try.

Frequently asked questions

What do the quizzes cover besides hiragana?

The page includes quizzes on katakana, Korean letters, hieroglyphic signs and Afrikaans spelling.
