General and basic vocabulary notes

These notes bring together French words and phrases with English meanings. Basic French covers greetings and question words, while Le Météo lists weather vocabulary. Other notes cover numbers, countries, comparisons and clothing.

Choose a starting point

Start with Basic French if you want to review everyday words such as hello, please and why. For a topic-based list, try Choosing an Outfit or Time Expressions. The notes on comparisons bring together words for making comparisons, including better and worse.

Revise with notes

Read a short section, then cover the English meanings and see which French words you can recall. Check the list and return to the words you missed. If you want a different way to practise, switch to flashcards or a quiz on the unit page. Teachers can skim a list before using it in a lesson.
