About Greek and World Mythology

GoConqr Original

What the page covers

Most of the material is Greek. Flashcard decks such as The Olympians, Greek Gods and Greek Gods and Godessess run through Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Athena and the rest, with symbols and Roman names in places. Theseus and Myths of Athens follows the hero from Aegeus and Aethra through Procrustes and Phaedra.

The page also reaches beyond Greece. Norse Mythology covers the world-tree and its nine realms, Odin as ruler of Asgard and Thor as the thunder god. There are decks on Chang'e, Guanyin and Wangmu, plus Roman gods and goddesses, and mind maps on Scottish myths and folklore, vampires and Medusa.

Where to start

  1. Begin with The Olympians to meet the main gods.
  2. Move to Greek Gods for the first generation: Gaea, Uranus, Kronos and the Titans.
  3. Try Theseus and Myths of Athens for a story-led deck.
  4. Look at Norse Mythology when you want something different.

Using quizzes and maps together

The many Greek family tree mind maps show who is related to whom. Open one, then test yourself with a single-god quiz such as the Poseidon, Ares, Apollo, Hermes or Hades quizzes. Wrong answers tell you which branch of the tree to revisit. The Norse Mythology Family Tree map, with Ymir, Buri, Odin, Loki and Hel, works the same way.

The Map of the Underworld is a good companion to the Hades quiz. Teachers can set a deck as a starter and a quiz as a check at the end of a lesson.

Where it sits

This unit belongs to the strand Myths, Beliefs and Mysteries in General knowledge, trivia and entertainment. It suits curiosity as much as classwork.

Ready to begin? Open a deck, then see whether you can make a family tree of your own from memory.

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I open first?

Start with the flashcard deck The Olympians. It covers the main gods, their roles and their relationships, so it gives you a base for everything else. After that, try a single-god quiz such as the Poseidon Quiz or the Hermes Quiz to see what stuck.

What do the mind maps cover?

Many are Greek mythology family trees made by individual students, showing how gods and Titans connect. Others cover Norse creatures, the Norse family tree, the Underworld, Medusa, Zeus, Scottish myths and folklore, and vampires. Comparing several trees can help you spot gaps in your own.

Are the resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource on this page is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users rather than by GoConqr itself, so styles and depth vary from one resource to the next.

Is there anything beyond Greek myths?

Yes. You will find the Norse Mythology deck, creature maps for Norse myths, a Scottish myths and folklore map, Roman gods and goddesses, and decks on Chinese figures such as Chang'e, Long Wang, Yan Wang, Guanyin and Wangmu. There is also a quiz on ancient mythology east and west.

Who is this page for?

It is aimed at school students learning the gods, heroes and stories, and at teachers who want ready-made decks, maps and quizzes. Most resources are at secondary level, with some general-interest material alongside.

What if I can't find what I need?

Make it yourself. A free account lets you build your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes, and it saves your quiz scores. You could create a deck on a god or story this page does not yet cover.
