English Essay Checklist

The essay must be based in the given title, with appropriate refrence to it

the genre chosen chosen should be adhered to in style content and tone

Ideas should reflect a creative and orginal use, and interpation of the title

The sturucture of the essay should show clear planning and sequencing of ideas.

Pragraph breaks should be used purposefully and the progression of ideas withi each paragraph should be fluent

Imagntive writing:

Narrative:

The overall shape of the story should be clear and evident, strong opening, with a porousful end in mind

It could embrace flashback or other stylistic devices.

Show off their ablity to write an interesting and mangable plot, with appropriate crisis and shape

There should be sufficient balance between the plot, the description of the character within it, and the setting

Descripitive:

The structure of descriptive writing should be clearly evident

For example, the writer's viewpoint, if describing a place, should be established. whether describing a landscape in an organised way from a static position r as if passing through it.

Similarly, there are various ways to structure the description of a character or object and care should be taken to ensure that the piece is not disjoint and that the ideas are clearly connected.

Detail: The ability to focus on, write with, sufficent detail will engage the reader and ensure that it is not plot driven.

The reader needs to be able to picture his/her surroundings, with the appropiate setting details may range from the overview, such as weather and light, to the immediate foreground

To provide this detail the setting(s) could be explored in a variety of senses

Character should be developed in a certain way, to go beyond physical attributes, and to include consistent and believable actions, dialogue, and reactions and feelings.

Care should be taken not to use to much diaglouge.

If the chosen writing genre is descriptive, the detail should be greatly enhanced

Sentence structures should provide a variety of openings: simple, complex, and compound should be used smoothly according to the context.

Verb tenses should be used accurately and consistenly and tense changes for used for effect where appropriate.

A range of writing features such as imagery, sound devices, and the powerful use of vocabulary should be used to enhance the composition.
