Bonds
Contenido del diagrama
Chemical bonds:
a type of interaction between atoms that results from atoms sharing or transferring valence elctrons; causes atoms to stay close in proximity
Covalent Bond:
two atoms share a pair of valence electrons
Ionic Bond:
difference in electronegativity >1.5
Double Covalent Bonds:
two atoms share multiple valence electrons

Polar Bonds:
difference in electronegativity between 0.5 and 1.5
Non-polar Bonds:
difference in electronegativity <0.5
Strong Chemical Bonds
Weak Chemical Bonds
Hydrogen Bonds:
attraction between a partially positive charged atom within a polar molecule and a partially negatively charged atom within a polar molecule
Van Der Waals Interactions:
molecules or atoms in close proximity can be attracted by fleeting charge differences
Bond between H2O and NH3
water is good solvent
water is good solvent
