Alternative development approaches
Fichas del conjunto (7)
- 1Explain the Waterfall method- Consists of a sequence of discrete stages
- The last stage must be completed before the next one can start
- Deliverables are produced and reviewed at the end of each stage
- An earlier stage may be revised if an error is found at a later stage
- These stages are completed linearly (with possible repetition (iteration))
- Suitable for large scale products with long delivery times - 2Explain Rapid Application Development- Type of incremental model
- Project is subdivided into a series of builds
- Each build undergoes its own separate lifecycle passing through requirements, design, implementation and testing phases
- Each component is developed in parallel produced within a given time frame and then assembled to produce a working prototype
- Which is delivered to the user for feedback - 3What are the stages of RAD?- Business modeling-Complete analysis of the system
- Data modelling-the data objects are identified
- Process modeling-Any modification to an object
- Application Generation-System developed using automation
-Testing and Turnover-Prototypes are tested at each - 4Explain Agile development-Aim is the rapid delivery of the system
-Combination iterative and incremental models are used
-Split into small independent modules
-Each module is developed by a separate team (team works concurrently)
-Each team simultaneously works on planning, requirements analysis, coding and testing
-A project leader coordinates all of them - 5What are the advantages and disadvantages of the waterfall method?-Easy to understand and apply
-Works well for projects where User Requirments aren't clearly defined
-There is no overlapping of phases so its easy to implement
x-Amendments to the system cant be made easily
x-No software produced until late
in the development process so
high level of risk involved - 6What are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Rapid Application Development?-Reduction in development time
-Components reviewed at an early stage
-Client feedback is encouraged
-Components can be reused
x-Not suited to all systems
x-Expensive approach as it involves automated tools - 7What are the advantages and disadvantages of Agile- Fast which means increased customer satisfaction
- System is adapted regularly to meet the change in UR
- All parties work closely together on the development
x- Limited documentation means future maintenance can be difficult
x- Project can lose focus if the customer is unclear of own requirements
x-Only experienced programmers are suited to this type of development
