- 1AimTo investigate how readily people would conform to new roles. This was done by assigning participants to the role of prisoner or guard in a role play situation and observing their behaviour.

-Assigned roles. - 4FindingsWithin a very short time period, both guards and prisoners conformed to their roles. All participants took their roles seriously and adopted the behaviour of either the guard or prisoner very easily.
- 5ConclusionsZimbardo's experiment shows that participants had conformed to their roles. This was due to situational factors which was the result of normal social influence. The roles played shaped their attitudes and behaviours.
