Storage

Storage

1. SSD: a storage device containing non-volatile flash memory, used in place of a hard disk because of its much greater speed. SSD's are volatile

2. Rom: Once data has been written onto a ROM chip, it cannot be removed and can only be read. Unlike main memory (RAM), ROM retains its contents even when the computer is turned off. ROM is referred to as being nonvolatile, whereas RAM is volatile.

3. RAM: Alternatively referred to as main memory, primary memory, or system memory, Random Access Memory (RAM) is a hardware device that allows information to be stored and retrieved on a computer. ... If the computer is turned off, all data contained in RAM is lost. Tip: New users often confuse RAM with disk drive Ram is non volatile

4. Magnetic storage devices: Data storage is a critical component of any computer system. Magnetic storage is one of the most affordable ways to store large amounts of data and has been implemented using magnetic tape, floppy disks and hard disk drives. Magnetic storage devices are volatile

5. Optical storage devices: Examples of this media are compact disk read-only memory (CD-ROM), digital versatile disk read-only memory (DVD-ROM), digital versatile disk random access memory (DVD-RAM), write-once read-many (WORM) cartridges, erasable optical cartridges, and Removable Mass Storage (RMS) media which are removable disk (RDX). Optical storage devices are volatile

6. Flash memory devices: a small electronic device containing flash memory that is used for storing data or transferring it to or from a computer, digital camera, etc. Flash drives are volatile

7. Punch Tape, Punched tape or perforated paper tape is a form of data storage, consisting of a long strip of paper in which holes are punched to store data.

8. Blu Ray: a format of DVD designed for the storage of high-definition video and data. Blu ray is volatile
