Finishes
- Why include a Finishing Process? Protecting the material Making product water repellent Improving resistance to wear and fatique Improving ability to reflect or absorb heat Improving its ability to insulate agaist heat or electricity
Metals
- Oil-Based
- Varnishes
- Applied Barriers
- Paints
- Cellulose
- Acrylics
- Oil-Based
- brusing
- Rolling
- Spraying
- Needs air exstration Cleaned area (No particals to stick to paint) Can be done by hand or machine can be automated for lower costs and faster rates Used to colour cars
- Dripping
- Normally a latex based plastic heated first then the metal is dipped into the molton plastic. Low quality finish. used to make handles on tools
- Anodising
- Sulferic Acid solution Aluminum
- Electroplating
- Zinc to apply plating Sodiam carbonarte solution
- Enamelling
- Glass based powder applied onto the metal heated to melt it into place and fuse it to metal
- Powder Coating

- Such as Oils It's labour intensive Rubbed down between coats Waxes
- Applied Barriers
- Preservitives
- Tanalising
- Increase pressure inside machine forceing preservitives into the wood deeper prolonging it's lifespan. Causes the wood to turn green First Vaccum is applied to take air out of timber cells. Cylinder is flooded under vaccume with tanalith E Hydrolic pressure applied to penetrate the wood with preservitive A vaccume is apllied again to remove excess liquid and the chamber is vented bacdk to atmosphere pressure
- Water-Based
