Lady Macbeth

1. She is the most powerful in the relationship

   • This was unheard of at the time that the play was written
     • She used her power to trick and control Macbeth in to doing what she wants
       • she did this by calling him weak and telling him he isn't a man
         • "when you do it then you are a man"

2. However she loses her power after what she has done causes her to feel guilty

   • This causes her to sleepwalk and see blood on her hands
     • "out damned spot"
   • "all the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand"

3. despite being a strong female character Lady Macbeth dies offstage

   • showing she wasn't as important as she thought she was
     • she also dies from suicide (apparently)

4. Ambition

   • Her ambition is the same as Macbeth
   • it is also her down fall (hamartia)
   • her need for power leads her to death

5. Supernatural

   • "come ye spirits, unsex me here"
     • she is asking evil to fill her body and help her kill Duncan
       • working with the devil
         • becomes less human

6. Many people would blame her for Macbeth doing what he did

   • She tricked him and over powered him even though it was not her place to do so
