Secondary Storage

1. Secondary Storage is a non-volatile device which stores data permanently.

2. Magnetic

   • Advantages
     • Has more storage compared to SSD therefore being more helpful if you are working in company on which relies on documents and spread sheets.
     • More cost effective if you need storage compared to SSD therefore reducing costs on computer hardware
   • Disadvantages
     • Is not very durable compared to SSD which means if you drop it, it has a higher chance of breaking on impact and so will lead onto not being very cost effective
     • Doesn't have a quick read/write speed compared to SSD so it means that you wont be able to get work done more quickly.

3. Optical

   • Disadvantages
     • It is not very durable and can get damaged very easily compared to solid state as it is requires moving parts in order to read/write its contents. Therefore if dropped will be scratched /break.
     • Has a limited capacity compared to magnetic storage since the maximum you can have is 100 GB whereas, magnetic has more than 3TB of storage therefore more money wasted on extra Blu-ray/CD's
   • Advantages
     • Very cost efficient compared to a USB drive as it is only 22p per disk to store 700MB of data which is much better to £6. Therefore, you spend a lot less money on excessive data.
     • Can be used to easily distribute data compared to USB drive as you can get lots of disks that are very replacable and reuseable but without the excessive time waster on copying and pasting on each and every USB drive. Consequently, this equates more time on working and less on wasting.

4. Solid-State

   • Advantages
     • Has no moving Parts compared to optical and magnetic storage which means it is less likely to break if dropped therefore it is more worth its money
     • Has a quick Read/Write speed compared to magnetic so that you are more time efficient so you are not waiting but working therefore making more money in a buisness.
   • Disadvantages
     • Doesn't have a lot of capacity than magnetic so it wouldn't be very helpful if you have lots and lots of documents that take up a lot of space
     • Less cost-efficient than optical and magnetic therefore meaning that if your trying to run a business productively, you would fall into massive debt and lose your company.
