   • Advantages
     • Solid state devices are the most durable as they have no moving parts.
     • These devices are the most reliable
     • They don't need as much power as hard drives so they have a longer battery life
     • They have lightweight components so they are easier to carry
   • Disadvantages
     • Solid state storage is not as cost effective as other storage devices
   • Examples
     • Solid state devices include: phone, laptop and USB stick

2. Magnetic

   • Advantages
     • Magnetic devices are cost effective
     • These devices have a high capacity
     • Most magnetic devices have a high capacity
   • Disadvantages
     • Magnetic devices are less durable than solid state because they have moving parts
     • Accessing specific datacan be a slow process
   • Examples
     • Audio cassettes, video cassettes, tape, floppy disk, hard drive disk and magnetic core memory

3. Optical

   • Advantages
     • Optical devices are cost effective
     • They can sometimes be re-used
     • These devices have a large storage capacity
     • Optical storage devices are the most portable
   • Disadvantages
     • Optical devices scratch and break easily so you might lose data
     • Older computers might not be able to read the disk
   • Examples
     • Optical devices include: compact disk, DVD, HD-DVD and bluray
