1. Operating System

   • User interface
     • the operating system is responsible for loading the UI. this allows the user to operate a task. the are three types of UI: GUI (graphic user interface), Command Line and Menu Driven
   • Memory Management
     • the operating system is used to manage the memory of the computer. this is where program instruction/data are stored for quick access by the CPU. this is a complex activity and provides space when it is requested by the program and freeing it when it is not in use
   • Peripheral management
     • this controls how the computer interacts with peripherals. either by cable or Wi-Fi. Software driver give detail to the computer on how to communicate with the each piece of hardware
   • Multi-tasking
     • multi taking occurs when the user has more than one program running. the operating system allows the user to switch between program with each program running in a different window. multi tasking operate more efficiently when the computer has more cores. this is because the computer can give each core one program to run. on a single it appears that they are running simultaneously because the programs are switched so quickly between the single core
   • Security
     • the operating system controls user login and access to make the system secure. this can be done by having user admins. these has the ability to add user accounts so they can access the network they are working on. they can also add software and hardware to the computers. any user would have to have the permission of the admin to download any new software or applications
