1. Group O = no antigens, anti-A and anti-B.

   • O neg is the universal donor

2. Group A = antigen A, anti-B.

3. Group B = antigen B, anti- A

4. Group AB = antigen A & B, no antibodies

   • Universal recipient

5. Plasma is removed from the blood before it's given to someone else.

   • Antibodies are in plasma, antigens are on red blood cells

6. Rhesus positive people have the antigen D

   • Baby can pass this to mother in womb, so she might react with her next rhesus positive baby, as she will have produced anti-D last time.

7. To prevent transplant rejection immunosupressant drugs and irradiation with x-rays is used.
