Atom models

1. Bohr

   • Bohr believed that atoms had a nucleus and an electron cloud (in the nucleus were protons and neutrons, and in the electron cloud were electrons). He also believed that electrons moved in circular orbits with fixed energy.

2. Rutherford

   • Rutherford believed that atoms were very small, with dense nucleus that concentrated most of the mass in which they contained the atom's positive charge. Electrons (negatively charged) would be located in the electrosphere (empty space surrounding the nucleus). The model is compared to a solar system, where the Sun represents the nucleus and the planets represents the nucleus and the planets represent the electrons orbiting it.
