   • they are political, traditional and are consertivies
   • biological based division of labour
     • like functionalist they believe the domestic division of labour is natural , man breadwiner/ women instrumental role
       • nurclear fam who have individual conjual roles are the best place for children to be socailised
   • familes should be self-reliant
     • familes should not depend on the welfare state as it produces dependency culture, can cause break down in familes and cause lone parent familes
       • lone parent familes
         • new right believe that women are married to the state, as the state takes the role of the breadwiner
           • boys lack a role model which causes deviannce and social problems
           • solution
             • redirect the benefit to the people who need it and make them return to the traditional family

2. evaluation

   • gender roles in familes are not natural but constructed by society
     • symetrical rolrs, women go out to work, metrosexual men
