How a child constructs a mental model of the world.
Intrigued at why children gave the wrong answers to logical questions - difference between adults and children.
4 Stage model of how children see the world.
- 1st -Sensorimotor Stage - birth to 2 years = builds understanding of themselves and reality. (how things work.) this is through interactions of their environment. Differentiate between themselves and objects.
- 2nd - 2-7 Pre operational - representing things using words and images, egocentric, uses intuitive instead of logic
- 3rd - 7 to 11 - concrete operational - thinking more logically about things, categories is how they understand the world.
- 4th - Formal operational - 12 and onwards - understands world through hypothetical and scientific reasoning
