What obligation does a company have to keep communities safe?
Companies are obligated to keep communities safe because if they're being dangerous, reckless and/or careless with the community that they are apart of, it would mean a decline in success for whatever company they're working for, because if the community isn't being protected, than they won't want to buy from an organization that won't help them.
Should company profits be more important than the safety of the community?
What role do customers play in this situation? Should Amazon customers not be requesting fast (one or two-day) shipping?
What ethical philosophies can be applied to this situation? How do you know?
As of 2019, based on what I could find, 60 people have been injured by Amazon drivers and 13 have been killed since 2015. In contrast, on average, 100 people a day are killed by guns in this country. Are injuries and deaths inevitable with the Amazon business model of fast, free shipping? Should, then, they just work to keep injuries and deaths as low as possible or is one death one too many?
