Photosynthesis is the process where plants convert water, CO2 and sunlight into glucose and oxygen. In a vascular plant, where there are pipe like tissues along the stem that conduct water and other minerals, water is taken in through the xylem. CO2 is taken in through pores on leaves called stomata. Lastly, light photons from the sun are absorbed by a pigment called a chlorophyll.
In every plant cell there are chloroplasts. They are made of stacked thylakoids which store chrophyll.
There are two sorts of reactions in photosynthesis:
Light dependent
and
Light independent reactions
The light independent reactions are called the Calvin Cycle. The light dependent reaction makes ATP during the day, a form of viable energy for the plant. The light independent reaction uses that ATP to make glucose and O2 using the Calvin Cycle.
Photosynthesis process:
Stage 1- light dependent reaction;
A light photon bashes into a molecule called a chlorophyll.
The energy this gives off gets an electron 'excited'
