Brabantio Character Development Act 1 Scene 1

When Roderigo succeeds in convincing Brabantio that his daughter has eloped with Othello, Brabantio shows his superstitious nature.

"This accident is not unlike my dream."

Brabantio's broken speech shows how tortured his mind is by his daughters betrayal to him. He is torn between love for his daughter and knowledge that she has deceived him.

"Where didst thou see her? O unhappy girl!

With the moor, sayst thou? Who would be a father!

How didst thou know 'twas she? -O, she deceives me

Past thought! What said she to you? Get more tapers."
