The nervous system is made up of billions of [blank_start]neurones[blank_end], specialised nerve cells, whose function is to [blank_start]process information [blank_end]and [blank_start]communicate[blank_end] with other neurones, therefore carrying information around the body. The brain consists of billions of neurones, but only about [blank_start]10% of[blank_end] the brain cells are neurones, the rest are [blank_start]glial cells[blank_end] (glia). These are [blank_start]support cells[blank_end] that have a range of functions, such as [blank_start]supplying nutrients[blank_end], and [blank_start]separating and insulating neurones[blank_end].
