Biology - Aerobic respiration flashcards
Fichas del conjunto (11)
- 1Aerobic and anaerobic respirationLets revise!
- 2What is aerobic respiration?Aerobic respiration is the form of respiration which uses oxygen.
- 3What is the equation?glucose + oxygen → carbon dioxide + water (+ energy)
- 4Where do most of the reactions happen in animal and plant cells?Mitochondria, tiny objects inside the cytoplasm of the cell. The reactions are controlled by enzymes.
- 5How is the energy used by the organism? It may be used to build up larger molecules from smaller ones. For example:
- Plants make amino acids from sugars, nitrates and other nutrients
- These amino acids are then built up into larger molecules - proteins - 6How is the energy used by animals? To enable the muscles to contract so that the animals can move.
- 7Why does the heart rate increase during exercise? To supply more oxygen and glucose to the respiring cells
- 8Why does anaerobic respiration occur during hard exercise? There may be insufficient oxygen supplied to the muscle cells
- 9What substance is glucose stored as in the muscles?Glycogen
- 10What is anaerobic respiration? The incomplete breakdown of glucose.
- 11What is the equation?glucose → lactic acid (+ little energy)
