  1. 1What is photosynthesis?Photosynthesis is the process that produces food in plants. The food produced is glucose.
  2. 2Where does photosynthesis take place?Photosynthesis takes place In the leaves of green plants.
  3. 3How are plants adapted for photosynthesis?Plants are adapted for photosynthesis because:
Leaves are thin and flat to provide a big surface area so lots of sunlight is caught.
The palisade cells near the top are packed
    with chloroplasts
Guard cells control movement of gases in and out of the leaf
  4. 4What is the equation for photosynthesis?Carbon Dioxide+Water=glucose +oxygen
  5. 5What are the 2 things need for photosynthesis to happen? The four things needed for photosynthesis to happen are:
    Light, from the sun
Chlorophyll. The green substance which is found in chloroplasts and makes the leaves look green. Chlorophyll absorbs the energy in sunlight and uses it to combine with CO2 and water to produce glucose. Oxygen is a bi product.
  6. 6What are the final 2 things needed for photosynthesis to happen?Carbon Dioxide, which enters the leaf from the air around.
Water which comes from the soil up the stem and into the leaf.
  7. 7What can photosynthesis be affected by?The rate of photosynthesis can be affected by limiting factors.
  8. 8What are the three limiting factors? The three limiting factors would be
    Light intensity
    Temperature
    Carbon Dioxide
  9. 9How can light energy be a limiting factor?Light energy can be a limiting factor. The chlorophyll uses light energy to perform photosynthesis. Not enough light slows down the rate of photosynthesis. As the light level is raised the rate of photosynthesis is raised steadily but only up to a certain point.
  10. 10How is CO2 a limiting factor?Only 0.03% of the air around is CO2 so it's pretty scarce. The rate of CO2 will only increase if the rate of photosynthesis up to a point. After, the graph flattens out showing that CO2 us no longer the limiting factor.
  11. 11How can temperature be a limiting factor?Chlorophyll is like an enzyme so it works best when it's warm but not too hot. The temperature must not get too high or it destroys the chlorophyll enzyme. This happens at 45 degrees.
