Flashcards
A2 IT Graphics creation
Cards in this deck (15)
- 1VectorAn image that uses geometric points and shapes. Calculations are used to draw the image. The image itself is not saved but the calculation on how to draw it so it doesn't go blurry.
- 2BitmapAn image made up of small squares, called pixels. Each individual pixel can only be one colour
- 3PixelA small square of one colour. These are combined to create a bitmap image
- 4When vector images are usedUsed on computers, often with specialist drawing software. Word processors usually provide vector tools such as shapes. Used to create logos or animations
- 5When bitmap images are usedPhotos taken by cameras or documents/photos that have been scanned. Bitmap quality depends on its resolution and how many dots there are per inch (DPI)
- 6When you have a choice between vectors and bitmapWhen creating a graphic on a computer
- 7When you cant choose between vectors and bitmapsIf you scan a document or used a photo creating a camera, you will need to use bitmap as it enlarges, the quality suffers.
- 8How image editing can affect societyMagazines often manipulate images of their models to make them look better using techniques such as airbrushing. Or to put people in scenarios that never happened e.g. memes
- 9Can vector images be added to bitmap imagesYes
- 10How image manipulation can positively impact societyCompanies may increase sales by showing the perfect model on their magazines
Memes can be used to create humorous adverts - 11Benefits of bitmapBitmaps are made of small pixels so the bitmap is the most suitable format for photo realistic images or images with high amounts of fine detail
Bitmap images can be large but can be compressed
Conversion between jpeg and gif is simple can be be without loss of quality - 12Drawbacks of bitmapMore difficult to scale because changing the size of a bitmap requires a complete rearrangement of the pixels. An enlarged bitmap is likely to appear blurry
Only has four straight edges - 13Benefits of vectorsMade of mathematically defined objects so sizes can be easily manipulated with little to no loss in the quality of the image. Objects within a vector image are re-rendered at a greater or smaller scale to provide consistently smooth edges
Can be any shape - 14Drawbacks of vectorsDoes not possess photo realistic capabilities because it is comprised of larger objects and cannot achieve the kind of fine detail that is neccesary
Images can have a very large file size due to the complex instructions needed to create them, the size of the file is not dependent on the size of the image, small complex images can have a large file size
Conversion of vector images often results in loss of quality, can mainly only export as a PNG - 15Features of a vector image that can be changedSize
