When was the Civil rights Act and what did it involve? The civil rights act was in 1964 -Banned discrimination in voter tests. -Banned discrimination in public votes. -Banned job discrimination. -Gave the government the power to force school desegregation. -Gave the government the rights to remove federal funding from the state projects that discriminated.
What were the weaknesses of the legislation? Enforcing the law in the southern states remained as problem.The equal opportunities commission could only investigate complaints and many blacks were frightened of complaining for the fear of retribution.Schools and businesses int he south still found ways around investigation.
part 1:When was the voting act?and what date was it signed by what president? The voting rights acts happened in 1965 on the 6th of August signed by president Johnson.
part 2: what did it involve? -There would only be 1 voting registration requirment. -Federal officials were to run voter registration. -By the end of 1965 79,593 new voters had been enrolled but it was a slow process.he end of 1965 there was a growing frustration among black people and how far the campaign for civil rights had improved their lives.Many blacks still faced discrimination in :housing,work,education,medical care and treatment by the police.However many blacks still faced violence and were treated as a second class and were generally not accepted as equals.
How did Kennedy support civil rights? -Appointed black people to high level jobs e.g Thur-good Marshall in the courts. -Pressed laws but was assassinated before the civil rights bill was passed. -Pressed for escorts for the freedom riders.
How did president Johnson support civil rights? -Appointed black people to high level jobs. -Secured the civil rights act and voting act. -Intervened to get Alabama state guard to escort marchers from Selma to Montgomery. -Pressed southern politicians to support the civil rights bill.
Extra information -Both Kennedy and Johnson supported the civil rights but in practice they usually intervened when matters got out of hand and when pressure was needed to push legislation through congress and the senate.
What happened in Selma 1965? In selma the SNCC protested but violence erupted causing one death.
What happened on march the 7th? Their was a march to Montgomary but was blocked by the police who attacked with truncheons and tear gas.
