Flashcards
Abstraction and Automation
Cards in this deck (8)
- 1What is information hiding? All the details that do not contribute to the essential characteristics of the problem are hidden.
- 2How does changing a TV channel use information hiding? The user does not know the process that happens between pressing the buttons on the remote and the channel actually changing as the information that is irrelevant to the user is hidden.
- 3What is problem abstraction?Removing details until the problem reduces to one that has already been solved.
- 4What is automation?Building models of real world objects or phenomena in order to solve a particular problem
- 5What is an algorithm used for in automation?Algorithms and data structures can then be designed to solve the problem.
The algorithm is then implemented in program code and executed. - 6What is decomposition?Procedural decomposition means breaking a problem into a number of sub-problems, so that each sub-problem accomplishes an identifiable task.
- 7What is composition?Combining procedures to form a compound procedure.
- 8What is functional abstraction?Using a function does not require you to know anything about how the computation is carried out.
You simply have to know how to call the function and what parameters to pass.
