Absolute Monarchy Where one person rules and is deemed the King or Queen. Rules with divine right and is the highest level on the chain of being aside from God. Has the most power in the country.
One-Person Autocratic Rule Type of government is based on the person in power. Not a monarchy, not a hereditary rule, but based on who has the most power.
Oligarchy Governments led by an elite group that furthers their own interests at the expense of others. Can be families, minorities, social classes, etc.
Military Dictatorship Most common type of authoritarian government where a military council is formed because of a "state of emergency". Civilians have some place in government.
Minority Tyranny When the minority in a place takes control of a government and only allows for the minority elite to have civil rights. Oppresses the majority.
Non-Democratic Systems Based on ideas of full support, no opposition, respect or fear for the law, censored media, no individual R/F, limited political participation, and a vision of the nation from the main leader.
Fascism An authoritarian ideology that originated with Benito Mussolini in Italy. Adolf Hitler adopted the ideology after seeing the results in Italy.
Nuremberg Laws Made Jews second-class citizens and prevented marriage and sex between Aryans and Jews.
Kristallnacht Collective violence against Jewish people, businesses, and homes. Jewish males were gathered up and marched to concentration camps.
Wansee Conference The final solution was proposed to annihilate the Jewish people by gassing them in chambers within the concentration camps.
Warsaw Ghetto The uprising of the young men and women who knew the truth about resettlement. Took them 33 days to retake the ghetto.
Nazi Political System Hitler joined the roles of Chancellor and President and then got rid of the lower chamber of government. Use of propaganda, controlled media, stormtroopers and terror of dissent.
Communism in Soviet Union Under political leaders Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin. Changed marxism to suit their needs and ran Russia as collectivist and a dictatorship. Capitalism was looked down upon because it benefited the bourgeoisie. Working people wanted better working and living conditions, employment, and schooling.
Bloody Sunday A mass of peaceful protestors were gunned down for wanting liberal values like basic human rights, education programs from the gov't, fairer wages and working hours, and improved working conditions.
"Peace, Land, Bread" Vladimir Lenin coined the phrase and used it to appeal to many Russians including workers, peasants, homeless peoples, and soldiers. Part of his political image.
Red Army v.s. the White Army The Red army were the Bolsheviks who supported communism and the current gov't, while the White army were people who wanted the old regime or did not like communism.
Vladimir Lenin Changed some of the marxist ideology to suit his needs. Tried War Communism. Brought back some capitalist views with the new economic policy and classical liberalism.
War Communism The complete destruction of the free-market economy and instead the encouragement of state-owned economics.
NEP New Economic Policy was established by Lenin and was a shift to the right side of the spectrum because it brought back some free-market ideas. People could own some land, sell, produce, and buy goods, and own private businesses.
Joseph Stalin Had goals for Russia that included modernization, industrialization, military capacity, collectivization of farms, and increased literacy. Was responsible for the great purge and many five year plans.
Vladimir Putin Current leader of Russia who resided in Germany when he was a KGB agent. Fear of popular uprising is taken care of using propaganda, withholding of information, censored media, and oppressing protests. Supports Trump and has a feud with Hillary Clinton.
Putinism An ideology that focuses on anti-westernism, national power, social conservatism, and the restoration of Russia to its former glory.
