Monopoly	When only one group was allowed to sell or trade a product in a certain area
Mercantilism	An economic system that allowed an imperial country
Colony	A territory controlled by another country
Imperialism	A country extending its control over other countries using economic or military means
Cache	Storage for food and items safe for animals
Portage	When the coureur de bois would take their canoes and stuff over land because the water was too dangerous
Metis	A person who has both European and First Nation heritage
Assimilation	Taking in and fully understanding ideas
Consensus	A process of decision making that seeks widespread agreement among group members
Confederacy	A league or alliance
Economy	The wealth and resources of a country or region
Governor	- Represented the King - Most powerful member - Took charge of defence and ally relations - Usually an army officer or noble
Intendant	- Second most important - In charge of day-to-day affairs - Saw that roads were built, settlers were looked after - Managed the whole economy - Sometimes built ships, fish industries, factories and roads
Bishop	- Head of colony church - First bishop was Francois de Laval
Factor	A trader in charge of a Hudson's Bay Company fort
Barter	The exchange of goods for other goods rather than money
