OCR - Types of sampling
Cards in this deck (8)
- 1Random SamplingEvery item in the population has 'some' chance of being selected.
- 2Simple Random SamplingEvery item in the population has an equally likely chance of being sleected. Although an excellent method of sampling it is generally impractical and not always possible.
- 3Stratified SamplingIf there are clear sub groups within the population then you could choose to sample a set proportion from each "strata"
- 4Systematic SamplingCarried out when there is a list of items. Samples are sleected at set intervals and is useful when working with spreadsheets.
- 5Quota SamplingTypically carried out by several people who each have a set number of specific people to interview such as 30 men, 30 women and 40 children.
- 6Opportunity SamplingTakes place when the situation is convinient such as when business people are leaving a conference. Generally unreliable
- 7Self selected samplingParticipants volunteer to take part in the data collection such as a telephone poll. Not representative of the population.
- 8Cluster SamplingUsed when the population is in destinct locations.
