Question Answer
Data Data is a set of raw facts or figures .
Information Information is data that has been processed into a useful form.
Knowledge Knowledge is derived from information by applying rules to it.
Encoding Data Data that is coded during collection or when put into an ICT system. E.g. S = Small, M = Medium, L = Large.
Coarsens Precision The encoded data is less accurate than the data from which it came from. For example - someone describes their eye colour as blue/green but a database will only allow you to enter blue, green or brown. So which one do we choose?
Value Judgement Value judgement can be different for different people and can lead to inconsistency. For example – if asked “Was the meal ‘excellent’, ‘very good’, ‘good’, or ‘poor’?” One persons excellent meal is only good for another.
