Multi-store model

Sam Ferstenberg English 8 cards

Cards in this deck (8)

  1. 1What is the process of remembering according to the multi-store model?Information is received from the sensory memory, and then goes to the short term memory. If rehearsed, it will go into the long term memory.
  2. 2What is the encoding, capacity and duration of sensory memory?Encoding - sense specific
    Capacity - all sensory experiences
    Duration - 1/4 second
  3. 3What is the encoding, capacity and duration of short term memory?Encoding - acoustic
    Capacity - 7+/1 2 items
    Duration - 0-18 seconds
  4. 4What is the encoding, capacity and duration of long term memory?Encoding - semantic
    Capacity - unlimited
    Duration - unlimited
  5. 5What is an advantage of MSM?Gives an understanding of the process and structure of STM. Allows researchers to expand on this model.
  6. 6Why may the MSM be lacking in detail? The working-memory model has shown us that STm is more complex than simple unitary stores.
  7. 7Why may rehearsal not be a part of transferring information to LTM?We are able to recall information we did not rehearse, and we sometimes struggle recalling information we did rehearse.
  8. 8How did Glanzer and Cunitz test the existence of STM and LTM?When participants were presented with a list of words, they remembered the first and last few words, but forgot the words in the middle. This supports the existence of STM and LTM as words early in the list went into LTM (primary effect) and words at the end went into STM (recency effect).
