Question Answer
What is the purpose of the deep squat? 1. The deep squat challenges total boby mechanics, providing performed correctly. 2. Assess bilateral, symmertical functional mobility of the hips, knees and ankle. 3. The use of the dowel is to assess bilateral, symmetrical mobility of the shoulders, as well as the thoracic spine.
What is the purpose of the hurdle step? 1. challenge proper stride mechanics during a stepping motion. 2. The movement requires proper coordination & stability between hips and torso, as well as single leg balance. 3. bilateral functional mobility & stability of hips, knees and ankle.
What is purpose of the in-line lunge? 1. Place the body under stresses simulating rotational, decelerating and lateral type movements. 2. The scissor position challenges the trunk and extremities to resist rotation and maintain proper alignment. 3. Hip and ankle mobility & stability, quadriceps flexibilty and knee stability.
What is the purpose of shoulder mobility? Assess the bilateral shoulder ROM, combining interal rotation with adduction and extension, and external rotation with abduction and flexion. Normal scapular mobility and thoracic spine extension is required also.
What is the purpose of the active straight leg raise? To assess the ability to disassociate the lower extremity while maintaining a stable torso. flexibilty of the hamstring, gastrocnemius and soleus is assessed. While maintaining a stable pelvis and active extension of the opposite leg.
What is the purpose of the trunk stability push-up? Stabilize the spine in an anterior and posterior plane during a closed-chain (isolated movement) of the upper body. Assess trunk stability in the sagittal plane, while a symmertrical motion is performed.
What is the purpose of the rotary stability? A complex movement that requires proper neuromuscular coordination and energy transfer from one segment of the body to another. Assesses multi-plane trunk stabil.ity during a combined upper and lower extremity motion.
What are the three test that require a additional pain test? 1. Shoulder mobility 2. Trunk stability push-up 3. Rotary stability
What is the score reduced to if pain occurs on any of the tests (including additional pain tests) and what should be the next step? 0 The test should be stopped straight away and referred to a physio.
