Flashcards
Data Transmission Security Issues
Cards in this deck (7)
- 1Why are there Security Issues? When transmitting data over a network, data can be vulnerable to eavesdropping. Whether the data is being transmitted over wires or wireless, if a user has access to the network then the data can be listened into.
- 2What networks are vulnerable to Sniffing?Public WiFi connections are vulnerable as you have little knowledge and no restrictions on who is connecting to it. Even personal area networks can be susceptible to sniffing if you are using Bluetooth.
However, mobile broadband connections, like 4G, are not vulnerable to packet sniffing at all. - 3What is Spoofing? This is where you get your computer to pretend to be another computer.
- 4How is Spoofing done?By using fake credentials and presenting them to the network they can fool the system into giving access to services meant for another device. This might mean that an attacker will be able to access private and confidential data or even alter or delete that data.
- 5What are the security prevention methods?1. Firewalls
2. Encryption - 6What is a Firewall? You can use both hardware and software firewalls to monitor traffic and block anything that appears to be dangerous or illegitimate.
- 7What is a hardware firewall?
