Module 10

James Herd Computer Science 2 English 10 cards

Cards in this deck (10)

  1. 1What is reverse engineering? This term was derived from hardware development
-the process of discovering how a competitor's system worked
-(SW) the process of discovering how your own system works
  2. 2When is reverse engineering needed?Needed when you lost the documentation of the existing system
  3. 3What is involved with reverse engineering?-Good for design recovery {Domain knowledge, fuzzy reasoning}
    -redocumentation
  4. 4Why would you need reconstruction?Suppose you have been given responsibility for a system that already exists, but you do not know the architecture.
-perhaps the architecture was never recorded by the original developers
    -perhaps the documentation was lost
-perhaps the documentation is no longer synchronized
-the designers didn't build as architected
  5. 5What are the 4 phases of reconstruction?Raw view extraction
    Database construction
    View fusion and manipulation
    Architecture analysis
  6. 6What is the raw view extraction phase?involves analyzing a system's existing design and implementation artifacts to construct one or more models of it
-Static information - obtained by observing only the system artifacts (parsers, abstract syntax tree, lexical analyzer)
-Dynamic Information- obtained by observing how the system runs (profilers, code instrumentation tools)
  7. 7what is the database construction phase?Raw views may be too specific to aid in architectural understanding
-need to manipulate these views, to collapse information and show abstraction
-Use a database to store the extracted information
SonarJ is a tool used to encapsulate a database
  8. 8what is the view fusion phase?Extracted views are manipulated to create fused views
-these combine static and dynamic information
Creating a fused view is like creating a hypothesis about the architecture and visualization of it to aid analysis
-these views can be interpreted, further refined, or rejected
  9. 9What is the architectural analysis phase? This has to do with finding violations
Use different views to find violations in architecture
-SonarJ tool will help find violation
  10. 10What comes last after the 4 phases of reconstruction ?Redo the process if it is needed
