Why do Christian use the Bible to make moral decisions?	It is the word of God (absolute authority). Has God's teaching on how to behave e.g. the Decalogue. Has Jesus' teachings on how to live e.g. Sermon on the Mount. Records Jesus' actions which Christians want to follow.
Why do Christians use the Church to make moral decisions?	The Church is the body of Christ. God speaks to the world today through the Church. By following the Church we all believe the same thing. Church authority for RCs comes from the Magisterium- Pope infallible
Why do Christians use their conscience to make moral decisions?	Some believe it is God speaking to them. The Church says they should follow their conscience. St Paul says that the conscience is the last part in the decision making process.
Why might some Christians not use their conscience in making decisions?	Consciences could be mistaken e.g. Yorkshire Ripper. Following the Church or the Bible means all do the same. Life would be chaotic if everyone did their own thing and not what the law said.
Why do some Christians use Situation ethics to make moral decisions?	Jesus acted in a similar way. Should only do things that lead to good results. Jesus' said to 'love thy neighbour' Christianity is a religion based on love.
Why do some Christians not use Situation ethics to make moral decisions?	The Bible is the word of God and should never be over ruled. Christians should all do the same thing. Church knows what is best. Can never know all the facts .
Why might some Christians use a variety of sources to make to make decisions?	Protestants might use the Bible for things like adultery. Hard to do this with modern issues like contraception, drugs or smoking. May turn to the Church or their own conscience.
Why are Human Rights important for Christians?	Right to life is covered by the biblical teaching of the sanctity of life. All humans are made in God's image and are equal. Christians are protected be these laws and so should help protect others. Human rights ban discrimination.
Why can Human Rights cause problems for Christians?	Some are against civil partnerships which are legal in the UK. Some against marring outside their religion. Against homosexuals having a family (adoption). RC do not allow women priests, which is a form of discrimination.
Why should you take part in democratic or electoral processes?	Government decides on taxes and voting gives you some control. They make new laws which you could influence. You get a say in things like school and the NHS. People fought for the right to vote and this should be respected.
What are the Christian teachings on moral duties and responsibilities?	The Golden Rule- when voting Christians should look at policies and see how they affect others living in this country e.g. not vote for a party that wanted to send asylum seekers home. Parable of the sheep and the goats- States that you will be judged on how you have treated others. Christians would not want to vote for a party who wanted to cut benefits for the disabled or those in need. Am I my brother's keeper- Christians have a duty to look after everyone who is need. The is the main principle behind human rights.
What are the non-religious arguments for Genetic engineering and cloning?	Could lead to cure for usually incurable disease. Using 'cybrids' does not involve the loss of human life. Genetic research is monitored closely by the law. Some countries already do it.
What are the non-religious arguments against Genetic engineering and cloning?	There is information on the long term consequences. Effects are irreversible. Gives too much power to scientists. Treats the human body simply as a commodity.
What are the Christian attitudes to genetic engineering?	Liberal Protestants like it if it is used to cure disease- Jesus was a healer e.g. paralysed man, blind man. Creating cells is not the same as creating people. Catholics will it for curing diseases but do not want it to use human embryos- killing an embryo is the same as killing a human(murder). Life begins at conception whether in a womb or a dish. Some are completely against it - Humans should not interfere with God's will. It is wrong to try and make the Earth perfect.
Define: Bible	The holy book of the Christian with 66 books split into the Old Testament and the New Testament.
Define: Decalogue	The Ten Commandments.
Define: Church	The community of Christians,(with a small 'c' it is a place of worship)
Define:Conscience	An inner feeling of rightness or wrongness of an action.
Define: Situation ethics	The idea that Christians should base moral decisions on what is the most loving thing to do in a situation.
Define: Human Rights	The rights and freedoms to which everyone is entitled.
Define: Democratic processes	The ways in which all citizens can take part in government (usually through elections)
Define: Electoral processes	The ways in which voting is organised.
Define: Political party	A group which tries to get elected into power on its policies e.g. Labour, Conservation.
Define: Pressure group	A group formed to influence government policy on a particular issue
Define: Golden rule	The teaching of Jesus that people should treat others how they want to be treated.
Define: Social Change	The way in which society has changed and is changing (and also the possibilities for the future change)
