Dynamic strength (With example) Repeated contractions over a long period of time. Eg. Rowing 500m
Explosive strength (With example) Single, fast, maximal contraction Eg. Pushing off the blocks in 100m/ Hand spring off the vault
Static strength (With examples) Applying force to an immovable object Eg. When pushing a rugby scrum / Holding a crucifix on the rings
Stamina / cardiovascular endurance (With examples) Ability of the heart and lungs to provide oxygen to the muscles Eg. Lasting 26 miles for a marathon
Suppleness (With examples) The range of movement around a joint Eg. Lifting leg over hurdles
What is a test for stamina? Cooper run
What is a test for suppleness? Sit and reach test
What is the importance of suppleness Reduces risk of injury Improves movement, efficiency & aesthetics
What is agility (With examples) Changing direction at speed. Eg. Dodging a defender in netball
What is balance (With examples) Maintaining a position with stability Eg. Holding a handstand in a floor routine
What is coordination? (With examples) Controlled and deliberate movement of body limbs Eg. Hitting a tennis ball with a racket
What is power? (With examples) Single, fast, maximal contraction Eg. push off for a round off
What is reaction time? (With examples) The time it takes to respond to a stimulus Eg. When the hands hit the bar in gymnastics, gripping it
What is speed? (With examples) The time it takes to get from one place to another. Eg. When approaching the vault to generate more power in the take off
What is the difference between health related fitness and skill related fitness? Health related fitness's are the ones that everyone needs in their everyday life to live a healthy life. Skill related fitness's relate to a specific activity or sport.
