Constitutes of Clarendon 1164 - Henry II published 16 articles creating English column law while trying to decrease the power of the church and increase the power of the monarch
Trial by Ordeal ended 1215 - Introduced in the Dark Ages, it suggested that God would show innocence through lack of injury
Constables Introduced 1250 - Men responsible for law and order in their village (unpaid and voluntary for 1 year only)
Posse Comitatus introduced 1285 - new law created by Edward I - all men had the duty to form a posse and help the sheriff catch the criminal (extension to tithings)
Justices of the Peace act 1361 - Rich local landowners could be asked to become magistrates to help keep the peace of the kingdom

Vagrancy Law 1531 - Punishment of Vagabonds changed from stocks and pillory to whipping until bloody and then return to homeland
Witchcraft becomes a crime 1542 - Henry VIII made all religious crimes equivalent to crimes of the state (abolished : 1736)
Vagrancy Act 2 1547 - Edward I stated that any able-bodied person who was out of work for more than three days should be branded with a V and sold into slavery for two years.

Gunpowder plot 1605 - Guy Fawkes tries to blow up parliament and fails
Civil War 2 1642 - 1649
Witchfinder General 1645 - Matthew Hopkins paid by Essex authorities to hunt and kill witches - flourished during the civil war (executed: 1647)
Waltham Black Act 1723 - 50 more crimes punishable by death
Bow Street runners 1749 - London's first professional police force, created by Henry Fielding
