Cards in this deck (13)

  1. 1Binomial DistributionA discrete distribution that arises from a number of Bernoulli Trials
  2. 2Bernoulli Trial CharacteristicsFor each trial, there are only 2 possible outcomes
The outcomes of each trial are independent of one another
The probability of success is always the same
  3. 3Characteristics of a Binomial DistributionDistribution is completely determined by n and p
    The mean is u=np
Variance of a binomial distribution is sigma^2=np(1-p)
The distribution shape can be right-skew (p<0.5), symmetrical (p=0.5) or left skew (p>0.5)
  4. 4Poisson DistributionDescribes the frequency distribution of events that occur rarely and randomly through blocks of time or space. A special case of the binomial distribution where the number of Bernoulli trials becomes very large and probability of success for any trial becomes very small
  5. 5Conditions of Poisson DistributionThe probability of 2 or more occurrences in a single sample subdivision is negligibly small
The probability of one occurrence in sample subdivision is proportional to the size of subdivision
Outcome in one subdivision of sample unit is independent in all other subdivisions
Probability of occurrence is identical for all sample subdivisions
  6. 6Applications of Poisson DistributionOften used as a test for a random distribution in time or space
Often used as a null model for a distribution of events
  7. 7Goodness-of-Fit TestCompares the observed frequency of observations in different categories to the expected frequiency under the null hypothesis
  8. 8G-TestCalculates the test statistic from observed and expected values and compares this to a chi-squared distribution
  9. 9Null Hypothesis Goodness-of Fit TestThe proportion of observations in a category are equal to what is expected
  10. 10Alternate Hypothesis Goodness-of-Fit TestThe proportion of observations in a category are not equal to what is expected
  11. 11Contingency AnalysisAsks if 2 categorical variables are associated with one another. Trying to determine if frequencies of different values for one variable depend on the values of another variable
  12. 12Extrinsic HypothesisExpected frequencies that are external to our data set. The expectations are treated as a given
  13. 13Intrinsic HypothesisExpected frequencies are derived from data you are analyzing, and no information is assumed prior to the study
