How did Hitler use the Enabling Act to ban trade unions? > 2nd May 1933 - SA and SS soldiers occupied trade union buildings > Leaders were arrested and sent to concentration camps > German Labour Front (DAF) was set up in its place > DAF had 22 million members > Strikes were banned - rebels to be sent to prisons and concentration camps for political re-education
How did Hitler use the Enabling Act to ban Centrist opposition? > 20th July 1933 - Pope and German government signed an agreement called a concordat > Secured the support of the Catholic Church, as long as the government protected Catholic rights > Pope saw Hitler as a partner against Communism (because of its anti-religious messages) > Hitler used this to ban the Centre party without opposition from the Church
