Flashcards

Module 1

Manjot Singh electrical electrical course English 9 cards

Cards in this deck (9)

  1. 1What is Power Loss, Voltage Drop and Overheating caused by and how can it be minimised?These 3 take place when the current overcomes the resistance and can be minimised by using cables which have a large cross-sectional area (CSA) and by using shorter cables.
  2. 2What is Electric Current?Current is the flow of electrons.
  3. 3What causes current to flow around a circuit?The Electromotive Force (EMF).
  4. 4What is Potential Difference?Potential Difference is the change in energy levels measured across the load terminals. (Also known as Terminal Voltage)
  5. 5What does Ohms Law state?As Current and Voltage increases, Resistance decreases (Vice Versa)
    R = V/I
  6. 6What is Resistivity?Resistivity is a material's natural opposition to the flow of current.
  7. 7What is the point of a fuse?A fuse prevents high electrical current flowing through wires that aren't designed to carry that levels of current. It does this by melting the fuse wire if a certain current is exceeded.
  8. 8How does a miniature circuit breaker work?An MCB will trip a switch to break the electrical current if excessively high current is detected.
  9. 9Which equation is used to find the fuse rating?I = P/V
    Current = Power / Voltage
