Cards in this deck (18)

  1. 1MARIn a computer, the memory address register is the CPU register that either stores the memory address from which data will be fetched to the CPU, or the address to which data will be sent and stored.
  2. 2MDRThe Memory Data Register is the register of a computer's control unit that contains the data to store after a fetch from the computer storage. It acts like a buffer and holds anything that is copied from the memory ready for the processor to use it.
  3. 3Dedicated RegistersA part of the CPU which has a dedicated purpose e.g. MDR, MAR, CU, ACC
  4. 4CacheCache is extremely small amounts of memory (multiple levels of speed e.g. L1, L2) this holds important information and is volatile.
  5. 5ALUALU does simple equations (e.g. Sums, Multiplication, Subtraction, Subtraction) and logic calculations such as AND or OR
  6. 6Control UnitThe control unit is a component of a computer's central processing unit that directs the operation of the processor. A CU typically uses a binary decoder to convert coded instructions into timing and control signals that direct the operation of the other units.
  7. 7Clock ChipThe clock chip is a crystal which vibrates and maintains consistent speed. This Determines the hertz of the CPU clock speed
  8. 8Clock SpeedHow many times the clock chip vibrates a second in hertz
  9. 9AccumulatorWhere arithmetic and logic calculations results are stored
  10. 10Program CounterStores the number of the next address
  11. 11HeuristicsCommon Sense Approach
  12. 12FE Cyclefetch execute repeat cycle
    decodes instructions executes commands
  13. 13control busany way wire that connects control unit to all other registers
  14. 14data bus2 way carrys memory
  15. 15busa communication channel which can move data
  16. 16usbuniversal serial bus
  17. 17core counteffectively the amount of CPU's in one chip.
Multi Core CPU's have faster speeds as they have multiple CPU's in one. As long as the program supports multithreading/use of multiple cores
  18. 18embedded systemssystems within systems (e.g. Screen on a washing machine)
