Question Answer
Proletariat Industrial Workers (Working Class) Provide labour (manpower) to the business.
Bourgeoisie Factory Owners (Middle-Class/Capitalists.) Own the means of production (factories) and capital (money) in a business.
Means of Production The facilities and resources for producing goods (Factories and Farms)
Class Struggle (Part 1) Tension in society between the classes of Proletariat and Bourgeoisie due to different and conflicting interests. The rich business owners (bourgeoisie) greedily want to make lots of profit and get richer. The workers (proletariat) are paid to make products for sale. The bourgeoisie exploit the proletariat for profit, forcing them to work long hours (in poor working conditions) for low wages. Therefore, the Proletariat want higher wages and better working conditions. This leads to inequality. The proletariat are poor but working hard to survive. The bourgeoisie are getting rich with little effort (keep most of the profit = richer).
Class Struggle (Part II) Since they have to earn money from their jobs to buy food and survive, the proletariat have no choice but to work for the bourgeoisie. Karl Marx thought that their labour under Bourgeoisie oppression restricted their freedom. He wanted the Proletariat to unite and revolt against the Bourgeoisie, so that they could own the means of production and all benefit. Whenever profit was made, everyone got paid equally regardless of how much they worked, which Karl Marx saw as fair.
The Marxist Cycle (Followed by Russia's Menshevik party) The political and economical progression of a state over time. Feudalism ---> Bourgeoisie Revolution ---> Capitalism ---> Socialism (via class consciousness and Socialist Revolution) ---> Communism (Socialist state dissolves, leads to a classless society).
Class Consciousness The Proletariat realise their poverty and how exploited they are by the Bourgeoisie. Leads to a Socialist Revolution.
Marxism-Leninism (Followed by Russia's Bolshevik Party) The Marxist Cycle adapted by Lenin. Skips the Capitalism stage. Feudalism ---> Bourgeoisie Revolution ---> Socialism (via class consciousness and Socialist Revolution) ---> Communism (Socialist state dissolves, leads to a classless society). Succeeds due the October Revolution 1917.
