- 1what is the cputhe CPU is the central component of the computer, which has the job of processing all the data and instructions and also the rest of the computer.
- 2what is the control unit?it controls and coordinates all the activities of the processor, directing the flow of data between cpu and other devices.
it accepts the next instruction and decodes it into steps and manages the execution and store results back into memory or registers. - 3what is the Program counterits a register that holds the memory location of the next instruction to be executed.

it divides code into OPcode and oprand - 7what is the arithmetic logic unitthis is the unit that performs arithmetic and logical operations on data. it can perform ADD DIVIDE SUBTRACT MULTIPLY on ints and floats
carrying out AND, OR , NOT, XOR - 8What is the accumulator?it is the register that stores the results of calculations made in ALU.
it is a general purpose register that can also be used to temporarily store data while calcs are being carried out
this makes the comp perform faster because retrieve data from within CPU is much quicker than retrieving it from main memo. - 9what are the 3 busesADDRESS BUS
DATA BUS
CONTROL BUS - 10what is the address buscarries the address of memory location where data is being read from or written to.
- 11the data bus ?carries the binary representation of the actual data being transmitted around the CPU
- 12what is the control bus?it transmits command and control signals to and from every other component of the cpu and computer
- 13what is the decode unitit is the piece of logic that is presented wit a sequence of bits fetched from memory.
like a lookup table.
it preps the execution by looking at the operation code so that the cpu knows what to do. - 14status register?contains info about state of processor
- 15what is the clockthis is the componenet that synchronises related components by generating constant rate pulses
measured in hertz
the higher the clock rate, the faster the comp works - 16interrupt register?this is checked by the CPU to see if interrupt is awaiting processing.
if so, the ISR is carried out and handles request - 17what is cache?cache is a small area of memory located on or near CPU which provides fast access to frequently used data or instructions.
its physically closer to CPU than ram to accommodate fast transmission speeds
